BELOW IS GOOGLE'S STREET VIEW OF HAWKIN'S STREET

A 'walkabout' explains the history of what you see as you 'Google-walk' down HAWKIN'S Street (Riverina Highway) using the 'view left' & 'view right' of Street View. For example, the first building on your left is the Howlong Hotel. The next, on your right, is the Howlong Bank, now the Resource Centre. (please note that some Browsers will only show a map and not Street-View, apologies.)

His son, William Barr Hamilton, inherited the store in 1938. The store was gutted by fire in 1941, rebuilt 1949, sold in 1976 ending 100 years of occupancy by the Hamiltons. It's now the HOWLONG CENTRAL CAFE.

GENERAL STORE:
Formerly Wallis, Osborne, McCormack Store. It is now WOODMAN 43.
MECHANIC's INSTITUTE:

The date on the building is 1895,earlier records show that Howlong School of Arts was built by W Squires and opened on the 21st October 1887. It can only be concluded that the building Facade was added in 1895 by contractor William Murdock, and the Supper room built 1936.

The original building was considered to have been erected by William Murdoch in 1879. The licensee was Mr James Stanton. It was originally called Ramsey's Hotel but the name changed to link it with the Howlong Court House erected in 1880. The Hotel underwent extensive renovation in 1902, hence the date on the facade.
GENERAL STORE:

Four commercial businesses were conducted on this corner. A garage and bakers shop, and a butcher shop, located on the Western side of the existing shop. It is now the NEWSAGENCY.
